The harvest is over. How did it go? How will the wines of the 2009 vintage be? Hard to say, the rains of recent times and in some cases hail, have compromised the grapes of some area, but overall, we can say that it was a good year, although not as exceptional as many supposed at the beginning. The definition "a macchia di leopardo" seems to be fitting this year too. Waiting to personally verify the quality of production 2009, let's console ourselves, let's say, now that autumn is incipient, with this Purpureus 2007. Produced by the little known Cantine Ferri di Valenzano, is a Primitivo obtained from grapes grown just outside of the DOC Gioia del Colle. Good complex olfactory impact with red fruit (plum) well expressed and underlined by notes of spices and incense. Elegant concentration on the palate where a ripe but fresh fruit emerges again. Wine of volume, with a pleasantly tannic finish, something not always found in the primitives. Bets are accepted on its durability and its evolution. To be followed without a doubt, but also to drink immediately
